Wreck Fishing
The
clear waters off the South Devon coast have numerous wrecks, some
of which were from the two World Wars of the last century. These
are now home to a multitude of species, which include Cod, Pollock,
Coalfish, Bass, Ling, Pout and Conger Eel.
For
both of the 5 and 8 hour sessions, Phoenix Charters
takes anglers to these wrecks where, by drifting over them, the
species mentioned above are targeted. Conger Eel fishing is slightly
different, however, as the boat is anchored up-tide from the wreck
which enables fishing to take place directly over the it.

Reef Fishing
South
Devon has an extremely rocky shoreline with many reefs for excellent
fishing, as the rock pinnacles and gullies are good holding areas
for many species. These include Bass, Pollock, Ling, Bream as
well as Cod, Whiting and Conger Eel.
Either
fishing at anchor or drifting over the reef are both particularly
effective methods to operate.

Shark Fishing
Blue
Shark, Porbeagle and sometimes Thresher Shark are found off South
Devon during the warmer summer months.
8
hour trips take anglers 10-20 miles offshore where up to 6 rods
(maximum) are fished with balloons as floats, suspending whole
mackerel or pout at different depths amongst the ‘rubby
dubby’ scent trail. (Rubby Dubby is a mixture of mashed
up mackerel and bran).
All
sharks must be released unharmed and are tagged for research purposes.

Bass Fishing
Bass
fishing around the Salcombe waters is amongst the best in the
country, whether fishing the reefs, banks or wrecks. Live sandeel
is the local favourite bait which can be supplied between May
and September, subject to availability. The prime time to fish
for bass is from June to November.
Particularly
for Bass Fishing, shorter evening trips can be arranged after
taking tides into account.
